BLIND DATE (Fiction)

December 8th, 2007

Year 2004

The restaurant was full when he arrived. The ambiance exuded a certain degree of elegance. He searched with his eyes for a lady in blue inside the busy place. His heart almost jumped when he saw her seated across the room. Slowly, he took light steps as his eyes were locked at her. Suddenly, she looked at his direction. He surely made an effort to flash his best smile. But she looked away. He felt a little bit disappointed but never erased his smile on his face.

“I’m Danny.” he greeted as he approached the table where she was.

“Hello! I’m Elizabeth, your blind date. Please have a seat.” she said smiling.

That was how they started the evening. The progress of the next events went smoothly well except for her clumsiness (she spilled her food and drink for about seven times) and her repetitiveness (she mentioned the words blind date for about twenty times). But those unfortunate events didn’t matter to him. He really liked her. She was witty and at the same time funny in their conversation. They both enjoyed the evening.

When they were about to leave, she turned into the wrong direction and collided with the wall!

“Are you alright?” His voice was full of concern.

“I’m fine.” She laughed at herself.

“You must have drunk too much!” he said.

“No. I’m really like this. I often times bump walls, doors and even people!” she answered looking away.

He went silent. He was very puzzled.

“Oh, you didn’t get it, did you? I mentioned it about twenty times for the whole evening. I’m your blindate… blind… date… I’m practically blind.” she replied with a smile.

Fast forward: Year 2007.

They are now married with a beautiful daughter named Clarissa.

Sometimes, sis, men (yes, us guys in the male species) are often blinded by beauty…and suddenly get BUMPED big time because of that. We are blinded to the obvious, hiding in plain sight in colorful words. This story is a very good example, with a beautiful ending.

Well, I am a victim of my own blindness sometimes, and I admit it. Sometimes the consequences are downright funny, sometimes the other way around.

In short, medyo tinamaan ako ng story mo…in a nice sort of way. : )

You know, I could have ignored you, because I have no idea who you were before. Now I really know that I am very lucky to have not done my usual thing and have gotten to know you! Very few people get to make me react, like a knife in the guts or a tickle in the brain. : ) God has a very unique way of working through other people, and I’m glad you are one of His chosen ones to be of substance in my life.
